Retirement Again

If you know anyone like the person described in this poem, retirement isn't for everyone. Retirement again is for those who have tried to retire but they just keep going back to work not wanting to give it up. We hope the poem puts a smile on the face of the retiree or should we say the person who was supposed to retire!

As Margaret Mead said, "Sooner or later I'm going to die, but I'm not going to retire." Some people have that mindset! They just do not want to retire. Or as Betty White once said: "Why retire from something if you're loving it so much and enjoying it so much... Why would I think of retiring? What would I do with myself?"

Although eventually, all good things come to an end. Retirement is inevitable, so the hope is that everyone makes that choice for themselves at a time when they still are able to enjoy the things they love to do. This poem was written for someone who just couldn't take the step. They attempted retirement several times but it never stuck and although they pulled back a little, they never fully committed and still worked six days a week. This is frustrating for family and friends who only want the best for their loved ones. This poem was written in hopes that there will be one final retirement party and this time, it will stick!

So if you know anyone like the person this poem was written for, then this poem can easily be personalized for them. Make your changes to their favourite hobby and the number of attempted retirements in their past and presto, you have a funny retirement poem perfect for them and their situation. We hope this poem works wonderfully however you use it!

Retirement Finale
Poet: Julie Hebert

Retirement may be a cause of worry,
For your family and for you.
You've always kept so busy,
Taking time to relax you are not use to.

You've even tried to retire,
A few times, but no luck.
Just like relaxing days,
Retirement never fully stuck.

You cut back a little,
Making time for golf some days.
We were all so happy thinking,
Maybe golf will lead to retirement ways.

Alas, we all surrendered,
Gave up any retirement hope.
You must love work as much as golf,
It's time we all just coped.

Then one fine day it happened,
The light at the end of the tunnel grew.
You mentioned retirement might be in the cards after all,
We finally heard the clue.

Today's the day we celebrate,
Still not sure if we should believe.
It may be your third attempt,
But for sure retirement is finally achieved.

And if not, that's fine, it's your choice,
But we have to make you this threat.
Today is the absolute final,
Retirement party you will get!
