Look through our loss of pet poems, to assist you in your search for the best way to share your condolences or to help console your own loss. Poems to give you comfort.

Dealing with a pet loss is something not everyone understands. Unless you have a pet to who you are attached to, understanding a bond between a pet and its owner is hard to see. But let me tell you, the bond we share is like no other. It cannot be held up to any other in comparison. And every bond is different. One could be like best friends share, another could be similar to a mother and her child. The distinction between this bond is truly up to the owner. How far they allow this love to fall into their hearts will determine this bond.

But the good thing is, if someone you know has lost their pet, you do not need to know the extent of their bond. The fact is, if their bond is quite close, you will most likely know just by their reaction to their loss or by the way they talked about their beloved friend before the passing. In any case, how you react to them should be the same as if they had lost a family member or a very close friend. Because in most cases, that is exactly what they have lost.

Send them a sympathy card or a condolence letter. Find bereavement phrases that would best describe your grief for them if you are not able to write one yourself. Send them flowers or a gift basket. But at the very least, acknowledge their loss. This is very real to them, and if you are a close family member or friend, you should be aware of this and treat it as such.

Pet Loss Poems

  1. Rainbow Bridge
    Poet Unknown

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

    All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;
Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
Just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
    The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing;
They each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head,
And you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

  3. I'll Miss You Now That You're Gone
    Poet: Julie Hebert

You had my heart from the very start,
All it took was you looking up at me.
I looked down at you and my heart skipped a beat,
Thats when I knew it was meant to be.

It was hard at first but it eventually came to me,
I found you the perfect name.
Our lives fit together like a perfect glove,
I made you happy and you did the same.

Our lives went on together as great companions,
We were together as much as could be.
Times apart would be short, necessaries arose,
But I always knew youd be waiting for me.

Now that youre gone I open the door remembering you arent on the other side,
It pains me to say that youve moved on without me,
But I know you are safe and happy where you are,
No more suffering on this earth for thee

Knowing this helps me to dry my eyes,
Well meet again when it's my time to pass on.
You will forever be remembered as a part of the family,
I will miss you now that youre gone.

  5. Tribute To A Best Friend
    Poet Unknown

    Sunlight streams through window pane
unto a spot on the floor....
    then I remember,
it's where you used to lie,
but now you are no more.
Our feet walk down a hall of carpet,
    and muted echoes sound....
    then I remember,
It's where your paws would joyously abound.
A voice is heard along the road,
    and up beyond the hill,
then I remember it can't be yours....
    your golden voice is still.
But I'll take that vacant spot of floor
    and empty muted hall
and lay them with the absent voice
and unused dish along the wall.
    I'll wrap these treasured memorials
in a blanket of my love
and keep them for my best friend
    until we meet above

  6. See My Pet
    Poet Unknown

Oh, could I see my pet once more,
And hold him on my knee.
And feel his loving kiss on my hand,
    How happy would I be.

  7. In Memory
    Poet Unknown

Although it's difficult today to see
    beyond the sorrow,
    May looking back in memory
    help comfort you tomorrow.

  8. you had my heart from the very start

  9. Cherish The Years
    Poet: C. A. Lynch

I shall always cherish the years
When my pet who was so dear
    Was always by my side
Walking with me, or in the car for a ride.

    The companionship she did provide
    Always being at my side
She love to run, she loved to play
She would fetch that stick all day.

But now she is gone and I miss her so
The hole in my heart, no one knows
How quiet the house is these days
Oh, how I miss her in every way.

I believe that I will see her again
It will be like seeing a dear old friend
So I take comfort in the fact
    My life she did impact.

So if you are missing your pet
    You may feel upset
    But cherish the years
You had with your pet, so dear!

  10. My Pet, My Friend
    Poet: C. A. Lynch

    My pet, my friend,
    So loyal until the end.
    Your absence will be mourned,
    Our lives so forlorn.

Though I miss your meow and purr
My hopes are you will be in heaven up there.
I cherish the time we had together
Gone now but I have memories forever.

  11. Beloved Pet
    Poet: C. A. Lynch

A treasured family member is our pet,
Together we have made memories we'll never forget.
All the cuddles, play time and licks on the nose,
Were moments that over joyed each of us most.

From the silence after they pass not a day is the same,
We recollect the conversations and calling their name.
The sadness of loss holds us tightly yet near,
For our beloved pet will always remain here.
